Peoria outfielder D.J. Stewart will be the only member of the Baltimore Orioles to participate in the Arizona Fall League Stars Game. The no. 12 prospect has been red hot for Peoria lately, collecting seven hits in his last seven games.
Stewart is 12-for-53 with 14 walks so far this fall after tearing it up in the Carolina League this season at Single-A Frederick, hitting .279 in 59 games. His time in Arizona this fall will help further advance him in his quest to the major leagues, namely developing his approach and concentrating on the consistency of his at-bats.
In other Orioles news, left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott was roughed up in his latest AFL outing. In his fourth and longest appearance of the fall, the 22-year-old allowed two home runs and four runs total in 2 2/3 innings.
Catcher Austin Wynns is taking advantage of more playing time for the Javelinas. Wynns has reached safely in his every game so far in the AFL and in his last two games, he has three hits, including a double and two walks.
Right-handed pitcher Stefan Crichton still has not surrendered an earned run through nine innings of work. The 24-year-old from Texas Christian University has allowed just eight hits and has six strikeouts to zero walks. With four seasons of professional ball under his belt, Crichton may be putting it all together this fall.
In the last week, Peoria has slipped. Since starting 10-2-2, they have lost five of their last six games. With just 10 more games left in the short fall season, each player will look to make the most of their opportunities. For many, this will be the last chance to impress the scouts before Spring Training invitations are sent.
The All-Star Game will be Saturday at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on MLB Network.
Come back next Friday for another Orioles update from the Arizona Fall League.
